“I tend to be quite fussy and subjective with overdrive pedals as I want single notes to sing a little when sustained, octaves to sound quite fat and three or four string chords to sound mildly crunchy but still clear, especially for extended or altered voicings. This being the case, I have favoured one overdrive pedal (now discontinued) for several years as it helped me achieve this well. While the FTT SOV2 was outstanding, it was the FTT MS SOV2 with it’s tone options and smooth overdrive (plus a wonderful buffer!) that convinced me I would be making a pedalboard improvement if I used this instead. I had a similar experience with a pedal I used for distorted lead work – it was my preferred choice for two years but after several comparison sessions on gigs switching between that and the FTT Gigs Boson, I concluded a change would be the best choice. The breadth of gain, the way it colours picking and legato articulations and the even tone for low and high notes, makes single note playing a real joy with the Gigs Boson."
